Recently, the Zilliqa mainnet encountered critical system bugs that disrupted block production on two separate occasions, causing the network to pause transactions temporarily. On September 29, a sudden system bug disabled the creation of new blocks on the Zilliqa network, leading to concerns from users who were unable to access their funds on ZilPay, a popular browser wallet.
Community members expressed worries over the Zil chain as it had just recovered from a similar incident on September 27. However, the first bug only slowed down block production, unlike the second bug that completely halted it. In response to user concerns, Zilliqa clarified that these issues were not related to their recent Zilliqa 2.0 upgrade, which focuses on enhancing speed and cross-chain compatibility.
Following the resolution of the September 27 bug on the same day, which restored normal network operations, Zilliqa faced difficulties in resolving the September 29 bug. As of now, the network has not fully resumed operations, but efforts are ongoing to implement a “permanent fix” for the issues.
In other developments in the crypto world, Cosmos recently addressed a critical security flaw in its Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol, saving at least $126 million from potential risks. The bug had the potential for exploitation through a reentrancy attack, allowing hackers to mint infinite tokens on IBC-connected chains like Osmosis and other DeFi ecosystems on Cosmos. The bug was swiftly patched by Cosmos developer Carlos RodrÃguez.
As the crypto world continues to face challenges with system vulnerabilities, efforts are being made to ensure the security and functionality of blockchain networks like Zilliqa and Cosmos. Stay tuned for further updates on these developments.
