EigenLayer, the leading restaking protocol on Ethereum, is rolling out a new rewards program to provide more flexibility for both protocols and restakers. This exciting update, announced in a recent blog post on Dec. 6, introduces changes that allow third-party protocols, known as actively validated services (AVSs), to reward validators based on performance. Additionally, operators now have the freedom to set their fee rates independently, enhancing control within the EigenLayer ecosystem.

Since its launch in 2023, EigenLayer has attracted dozens of AVSs and garnered nearly $19 billion in restaked collateral, making it a significant player in the industry. Restaking, a process involving using already staked tokens to secure other protocols simultaneously, has gained popularity among users seeking to maximize their rewards.
EigenLayer currently hosts 20 live AVSs on its mainnet with many more in development. Notable AVSs include EigenDA from Eigen Labs and ARPA Network, which specializes in trustless randomization. The recent introduction of Eigen’s native token, EIGEN, has further expanded the platform’s capabilities, offering enhanced security against a range of faults in the ecosystem.
As of December 6, EIGEN is trading at approximately $4.92, with a fully diluted market capitalization of nearly $8.25 billion. EigenLayer’s programmatic incentives program, launched on September 17, aims to incentivize restakers by offering EIGEN emissions equivalent to 4% of the token’s total supply.
