The Ethereum community is up in arms after Bloomberg’s senior ETF analyst, Eric Balchunas, shared what many are calling “blatant misinformation” about Ethereum in a now-deleted social media post.
Balchunas recommended a book that claimed Ethereum was vulnerable to being shut down by the US government through Amazon Web Services (AWS), sparking a wave of backlash from crypto enthusiasts. The book also suggested that Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin could be kidnapped and forced to hand over Ether to malicious actors.
In response to the deleted post, Ethereum educator Anthony Sassano condemned the spread of misinformation, calling it “propaganda” and urging Balchunas to be ashamed of himself for sharing such content.
Fellow Bloomberg analyst James Seyffart anticipated the backlash, commenting that the replies would be “amazing.” Despite the criticism, Balchunas chose to focus on Bitcoin sections of the book in his follow-up post.
As Ethereum developers continue to push for solo staking and decentralization of the blockchain, it is clear that misinformation remains a significant challenge in the crypto space.
