In a recent strategic realignment, Sky Mavis, the renowned developer behind Axie Infinity and the Ronin blockchain, has announced a significant decision. The company is laying off 21% of its workforce in an effort to realign its resources with its long-term vision. This move was confirmed by Sky Mavis co-founder and CEO Trung Nguyen in a recent post.
Nguyen clarified that the decision to lay off employees is not a reflection of their performance or the financial stability of the company. Instead, it is a strategic shift in priorities aimed at positioning Sky Mavis for growth in the coming years. The affected employees will be provided with severance packages and assistance in finding new opportunities.
Despite the recent downturn in the non-fungible tokens (NFTs) market, Nguyen emphasized that the layoffs were not a result of this. In fact, Sky Mavis is set to release a brand-new game in the first quarter of 2025. Nguyen expressed excitement about sharing a trailer for the new game once it’s ready and highlighted the company’s extensive experience and learnings that will be leveraged in its development.
In addition to the new game, Sky Mavis has outlined plans to focus on projects such as the Ronin Wallet, the Mavis Marketplace, Web3 game publishing, and expanding the Ronin Network. The company aims to enhance its agility and concentrate on product development through these initiatives.
While some of Sky Mavis’ blockchain-based assets have experienced declines in value, Nguyen reassured that the company’s decision to downsize is not based on financial concerns. The floor prices for Axie NFTs and tokens like AXS and SLP have fluctuated, but Sky Mavis remains optimistic about its future growth prospects.
As Sky Mavis gears up for a new chapter with its upcoming game and strategic realignment, the company is poised to continue making waves in the Web3 gaming space. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development!
