Pump.fun, the go-to platform for creating Solana-based memecoins, is in hot water due to users streaming harmful and violent acts through its livestream feature.
Criticism has been pouring in from the crypto community, demanding stricter moderation or even the complete shutdown of the livestream function.
A recent incident on Nov. 25 brought attention to Pump.fun when user Beau, a Pudgy Penguins safety project manager, reported a livestream where an individual threatened to take drastic measures if their coin didn’t hit a specific market capitalization.
Beau urged Pump.fun to step in, disable the livestream, and offer support to the person. He also called for the permanent removal of the livestream feature, stating that it has spiraled “out of control.”
Disturbing reports continue to surface, with users allegedly making threats of violence. For instance, a community member witnessed someone firing a gun out a window every time their coin value increased. Another incident involved a child threatening harm unless a token reached a certain price target.
Critics have likened Pump.fun’s livestream feature to a “pipeline of felonies,” with calls for its deactivation until more robust moderation tools are in place. One user urged Pump.fun to act swiftly, emphasizing that glorifying depravity shouldn’t be condoned.
In response to the backlash, Alon, the anonymous leader of Pump.fun, defended the platform’s moderation efforts but also acknowledged the community’s concerns.
Alon assured users that Pump.fun’s team actively moderates images, videos, livestreams, and comments on the website to maintain a safe environment.
While Pump.fun insists it’s keeping harmful content in check, users are demanding greater transparency and immediate action to prevent any more disturbing broadcasts. The platform has yet to confirm if additional safeguards or changes will be implemented to improve the livestream feature.
