In a groundbreaking move, the decentralized public network, Hedera, has officially joined the Linux Foundation’s newly established decentralized trust initiative as a founding premier member. As part of this partnership, Hedera has generously contributed its entire source code, including its cutting-edge hashgraph consensus algorithm and a range of core services, tools, and libraries to the Linux Foundation.
This transformative contribution has birthed a new project called “Hiero,” designed to empower developers worldwide to collaborate on decentralized trust technologies within an open-source and inclusive framework. By transferring its complete codebase to the LF Decentralized Trust initiative, Hedera has signaled a significant step towards decentralization in the realm of innovative technologies.
According to Daniela Barbosa, GM of decentralized technologies at the Linux Foundation and executive director of LF Decentralized Trust, open-source development is crucial for advancing decentralized technologies. Barbosa emphasized the importance of collaboration and interoperability in driving progress within the industry.
Charles Adkins, Hedera’s president, echoed this sentiment by highlighting the open-source model’s potential to enhance collaboration among developers from diverse ecosystems. Adkins expressed optimism about the opportunities this move creates for engaging with Hedera’s technology, ultimately fostering innovation and widespread adoption.
In a related development, on September 5th, Hedera and Cardano’s development arm, Input Output (IOHK), solidified their positions as the final founding members of the Decentralized Recovery Alliance (DeRec Alliance). These two key players will play integral roles on the Technical Oversight Committee for the next two years, contributing their expertise to shape policies and standards that simplify user experiences and support crypto recovery efforts.
Leemon Baird, Hashgraph’s chief scientist, and DeRec co-founder, commended the unity displayed by industry players coming together to address critical needs such as creating a safety net for users. The collaboration between Hedera, Linux Foundation, and other industry leaders underscores a collective commitment to driving positive change and innovation in the tech sphere.
