EigenLayer’s X account recently fell victim to a hacking incident, leading to a fake airdrop campaign being shared on the platform. The post claimed to offer a new airdrop campaign to eligible users, but instead redirected them to a malicious link unrelated to the restaking protocol.
The suspicious post was quickly deleted, indicating that the attackers may have lost access to the account. Pseudonymous investigator ZachXBT warned users about the malicious airdrop link and urged caution in engaging with such content.
With EigenLayer being the second-largest protocol on Ethereum with over $11.1 billion in total value locked (TVL), it has become a prime target for scammers. Despite the initial post being taken down, the account continued to share malicious links, posing a potential threat to unsuspecting users.
The malicious link disguised itself as EigenLayer’s official blog but redirected users to an unfamiliar URL, raising concerns about the security of the platform. This incident marks the second attack on EigenLayer since the beginning of October, highlighting the need for increased vigilance among users.
In a previous hacking incident, EigenLayer addressed unauthorized token-selling activity, reassuring the community that the compromised email thread did not impact the broader ecosystem. The team emphasized that the breach was not related to any onchain functionality or vulnerabilities in the protocol or token contracts.
As EigenLayer continues to grapple with security challenges, users are advised to exercise caution when interacting with airdrop campaigns and suspicious links. Stay informed and stay safe in the ever-evolving world of decentralized finance.
