Telegram has made waves in the world of crypto adoption with its integrated Mini Apps and support for various crypto wallets. This has opened up new possibilities for users to access digital assets directly within the platform.
While some believe Telegram could be the key to reaching the first billion crypto users, it is not seen as a direct competitor to conventional entry points like web browsers. Browsers such as Apple’s Safari have been cautious in adopting crypto features, while platforms like Brave and Opera are thriving in the crypto-friendly space.
Google’s Chrome, the most popular web browser globally, has not restricted crypto extensions on its platform. This allows users to access a wide range of crypto tools directly within the browser.
Telegram’s blockchain platform, The Open Network (TON), has seen significant growth, introducing many users to cryptocurrencies through Mini Apps like Notcoin and Hamster Kombat. The platform also offers various types of crypto wallets, catering to both self-custodial and custodial solutions for holding cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.
Brave’s vice president of business operations sees the adoption of crypto on Telegram as a natural fit, showing the demand for cryptocurrencies among mainstream users. However, this does not pose a direct threat to web browsers, as many of Telegram’s crypto features have been available on platforms like Brave for years.
Opera shares a similar perspective, believing that web-based crypto adoption will outpace Telegram’s strides in the future. Despite being a hub for crypto communication, Telegram is not the exclusive platform for TON projects, with the TON Foundation looking to expand its reach beyond the messenger.
As Telegram’s founder faces legal issues in France, the platform continues to play a significant role in the crypto adoption race. The competition between Telegram and web browsers adds an exciting dynamic to the world of cryptocurrency, offering users new ways to engage with digital assets.
