During a recent appearance at the Bitcoin MENA conference in Abu Dhabi, former Binance CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao shared his insights on China’s potential move to build a strategic Bitcoin reserve. He suggested that China, known for its quick policy changes, could be one of the first countries to adopt such a reserve, following a proposal by the incoming US presidential administration.
Zhao, who grew up in China, emphasized the country’s ability to act swiftly on policies if it so desired. While he admitted to not having seen any concrete evidence of China hoarding Bitcoin, he deemed it “inevitable” for China to establish a strategic reserve of the popular cryptocurrency.
However, Zhao also pointed out that predicting China’s stance on crypto was challenging due to the government’s lack of transparency on the matter. He mentioned that developments in the US under the new administration, including the activation of a strategic Bitcoin reserve, could influence China’s decision-making in this area.
With the Bitcoin market experiencing increased attention from governments worldwide, the concept of a national Bitcoin stockpile has been a topic of debate. President-elect Donald Trump had previously mentioned such a plan, sparking discussions about its potential impact on Bitcoin holders and the market.
As Zhao continues to navigate legal matters following his release from US federal prison, he remains engaged with the crypto space and observes closely the global trends shaping its future. Stay tuned for more insights on the evolving landscape of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency markets.
