An incredible disappearing statue honoring Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto was recently unveiled in Lugano, Switzerland, after 21 months of meticulous work by artist Valentina Picozzi. Known for her Satoshigallery creations, Picozzi aimed to bridge the gap between people and Bitcoin culture through art, resulting in this innovative sculpture.
Crafted from 304 stainless steel and corten blocks, the statue showcases a faceless figure engrossed in working on a laptop. Unique in design, the sculpture is only fully visible from the side, providing a translucent effect when viewed from the front or rear due to its slit design. As Picozzi describes it, the statue appears to vanish in front of spectators, leaving what she calls “Satoshi between the lines of the code” visible to all.
Lugano’s Mayor, Michele Foletti, expressed his pride in the statue, highlighting the city’s dedication to digital innovation and its recent recognition as a Bitcoin city. The unveiling took place during Plan B’s annual forum, where blockchain leaders, government officials, and Bitcoin enthusiasts gathered to celebrate technological advancements.
While the current location of the statue is temporary, Picozzi plans to find a permanent home for her creation in Parco Ciani. As Lugano continues its journey towards becoming a hub for digital transformation, this striking sculpture serves as a symbol of the city’s progressive spirit and commitment to embracing new technologies.
Join us in celebrating this remarkable artistic achievement and the innovative vision behind it, as Lugano cements its place on the map as a center for blockchain and digital innovation. Stay tuned for updates on the statue’s final resting place and continue to witness the evolution of Bitcoin culture through art.
