The price of Ether has surged past the $4,000 mark, reaching levels unseen since March in a remarkable turnaround for the popular cryptocurrency. According to CoinMarketCap data, Ethereum has gained 2.8% in a single day and over 10.7% in the past week, signaling a strong rally.
After months of lackluster performance and trading below its 200-day moving average, Ether is now on a bullish trajectory, with the relative strength index (RSI) hitting around 71 and moving towards overbought levels.
This resurgence in Ether’s value comes after a period of consolidation from August to early November, which was followed by a significant rally triggered by recent market events. Analysts are optimistic about Ether’s future, with projections of reaching $7,000 in the current market cycle, fueled by inflows from exchange-traded funds and a growing ecosystem of developers on the Ethereum blockchain.
The rollout of the Dencun upgrade earlier this year led to a drastic reduction in fees for Ethereum’s layer-2 scaling networks, causing layer-1 revenues to plummet by 99%. However, network fees have started to recover, with Ethereum generating approximately $10.9 million in fees on Dec. 5, a significant improvement from previous months.
Despite concerns about Ethereum’s competitiveness due to increased usage of layer-2 networks, proposals such as introducing a native sequencer on the layer-1 network aim to enhance the ecosystem’s scalability and usability. Justin Drake, a renowned Ethereum researcher, suggested this approach to boost transaction ordering and composability between decentralized applications.
As Ethereum continues its upward trajectory, investors and analysts are closely monitoring its progress, with many speculating on whether it can catch up to other prominent cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Solana.
