MicroStrategy chair and prominent Bitcoin advocate Michael Saylor recently made a compelling case to Microsoft’s board of directors, suggesting that the tech giant could potentially increase its market cap by nearly $5 trillion by fully embracing Bitcoin.
During a concise presentation featuring 44 slides in just over three minutes, Saylor emphasized the importance of Microsoft seizing the opportunity presented by Bitcoin, labeling it as the next groundbreaking technological advancement.
In his persuasive pitch, Saylor proposed that Microsoft should consider converting its various financial streams, including cash flows, dividend payouts, stock repurchases, and debt, into Bitcoin. By doing so, Saylor estimated that Bitcoin’s integration could potentially add as much as $584 to Microsoft’s share price within the next decade. Furthermore, assuming Bitcoin’s value would skyrocket to $1.7 million per BTC by the end of 2034, Saylor projected that such a move could contribute an astounding $4.9 trillion to Microsoft’s overall value.
As of now, Microsoft ranks as the world’s third most valuable company, boasting a market cap of $3.18 trillion, trailing closely behind Apple Inc. and Nvidia Corp. Amid Bitcoin’s meteoric rise of 120% this year, with a 40% surge in the past month alone, the cryptocurrency has approached the $100,000 mark.
MicroStrategy, under Saylor’s guidance, has made notable investments in Bitcoin since 2020, accumulating 386,700 BTC valued at $21.9 billion, which now stands at approximately $37.6 billion with Bitcoin priced at $97,200.
The surge in MicroStrategy (MSTR) shares of 465.5% in 2024 coincides with the exponential increase in the value of its Bitcoin holdings. Notably, the company’s shares reached a record-high of $421.88 on Nov. 22, exceeding the previous peak set during the dot-com bubble era in early 2000.
Saylor highlighted the growing public and political support for Bitcoin, referring to a “crypto renaissance” alongside endorsements from prominent figures such as incoming U.S. President, Donald Trump, and the introduction of Bitcoin investment products by major Wall Street institutions.
Concluding his persuasive argument, Saylor urged Microsoft to allocate $100 billion annually toward Bitcoin investments, emphasizing the strategic significance of embracing Bitcoin over traditional financial assets.
As the world navigates the rapidly evolving landscape of digital currencies, Saylor’s message to Microsoft resounds clear: “It’s time for Microsoft to evaluate its Bitcoin strategic options and embrace this transformative technology for the greater good of the world.”
