In a recent announcement, Sky Mavis, the company behind the popular Web3 game Axie Infinity and the Ronin blockchain, revealed plans to lay off 21% of its workforce. Co-founder and CEO Trung Nguyen described this decision as a strategic realignment to better align resources with their long-term vision.
Nguyen emphasized that the layoffs were not a result of poor employee performance or financial instability but rather a proactive step to position Sky Mavis for growth in the upcoming years. Affected employees will be provided with severance packages and support to transition into new opportunities.
Despite the recent dip in NFT volumes, Nguyen assured that the layoffs were not directly related to market conditions. Sky Mavis is looking ahead and preparing to launch a brand-new game in the first quarter of 2025. Nguyen expressed excitement about sharing a trailer for the new game once it’s ready.
In addition to the upcoming game, Sky Mavis will focus on enhancing the Ronin Wallet, Mavis Marketplace, Web3 game publishing, and expanding the Ronin Network. The company aims to leverage its expertise and experience to drive innovation and growth in the industry.
While some blockchain-based assets have experienced declines, including Axie Infinity NFTs and tokens like AXS and SLP, Sky Mavis remains optimistic about its future projects and the potential for success in the evolving market landscape.
As Sky Mavis paves the way for its next chapter, the industry eagerly anticipates the release of the new Axie game and the continued development of innovative blockchain technologies. Stay tuned for more updates on Sky Mavis and the ever-evolving world of Web3 gaming.
