In a bid to save Ethereum from falling into the grips of corporate interests and fading into insignificance, Gnosis founder Martin Köppelmannn has proposed a revolutionary solution – implementing a web of 128 “native rollups”. These native rollups, built as layer-2 networks, adhere to Ethereum’s native security standards, ensuring they are composable, uncensorable, and aligned with Ethereum’s original ethos.
Differing from centralized rollups like Base and based rollups like Taiko, native rollups offer the full security and composability of Ethereum, while being built and governed by Ethereum core developers. By establishing synchronous reading to the mainnet, along with data availability, MEV, and congestion fees being paid back to the L1, native rollups present a promising path towards resolving liquidity and developer fragmentation issues that currently plague the network.
