The future of tokenization is set to be driven by financial institutions as the industry gears up for exponential growth by 2030. According to Jesse Knutson, head of operations at Bitfinex Securities, major financial institutions will play a crucial role in fueling the expansion of the tokenization sector in the coming years. Market experts predict that the RWA sector could witness a staggering 50-fold increase by 2030, potentially reaching a market size of over $30 trillion. This growth projection ranges between $4 trillion to $30 trillion, with the median estimate standing at $10 trillion. If achieved, this would mark a remarkable 54-fold growth from the current market value of around $185 billion.
Despite stablecoins dominating the RWA sector with a market share of over $170 billion, securities and treasuries tokenized on the blockchain are valued at $2.2 billion. The recent surge in Bitcoin prices, coupled with the introduction of spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the US, has boosted institutional confidence in the crypto market, setting the stage for further growth.
Bitfinex Securities’ Knutson believes that the RWA tokenization industry is poised to mirror the growth trajectory of the broader crypto space. Major players like BlackRock, the world’s largest asset management firm, are already showing interest in the sector, with other financial institutions such as UBS Asset Management conducting tokenization pilots.
