A security researcher delved into the Cosmos Network documentation and unearthed a critical bug that could have disrupted the Evmos blockchain and its decentralized applications (DApps). Spearbit, known as “jayjonah.eth” in the community, was awarded a generous bounty of $150,000 for identifying this vulnerability as part of the Evmos Bug Bounty Program.
Uncovering a flaw related to “module accounts” while skimming through the Cosmos documentation, jayjonah.eth decided to test the theory in a controlled environment. Fortunately, the bug was promptly fixed by the Evmos team before any potential harm could be done.
In a recent blog post, the researcher emphasized the importance of thoroughly reviewing project documents, highlighting how seemingly simple oversights could lead to critical vulnerabilities.
Bug bounty programs like the one offered by Evmos not only aid in strengthening cybersecurity measures but also serve as a preemptive measure against potential breaches. Just last month, a hacker was convinced to return nearly $5 million in stolen crypto after negotiations facilitated by a similar bounty initiative.
