Avery Ching, the co-founder and chief technology officer of Aptos, believes that giving artificial intelligence models consent to use content for training is an ideal application for blockchain technology. Speaking at India Blockchain Week 2024, Ching highlighted how blockchain can offer enhanced control over the training of AI models.
One of the key advantages of blockchain, according to Ching, is its ability to provide clear consent mechanisms for determining whether specific content can be used for AI training. While AI and blockchain are both trendy topics in various sectors, Ching emphasized the importance of focusing on the data used to train AI models, rather than just the models themselves.
During the conference, Ching used the example of content from the event, such as videos and news articles, being utilized to train AI models. He explained how blockchain technology could enable individuals to control whether they allow AI to access their content. Ching sees blockchain as the perfect backend solution for managing this type of information.
Acknowledging the scalability challenges involved in implementing such controls on platforms like Facebook, where vast amounts of content are generated daily, Ching highlighted the potential for significant transaction throughput and costs. Despite these challenges, Aptos is actively working on integrating blockchain-based permissions for AI training into its network.
According to Ching, blockchain serves as a natural backend for regulating how content is used, especially as AI technologies continue to advance. By leveraging blockchain technology for AI training consent, Aptos aims to provide more control and transparency in the training process.
